Life's journey can be challenging for those who find themselves in the demanding role of a caregiver. Whether you are supporting children, adults, or older adults, the role of a caregiver often requires one to give deeply of themselves. Caregiver stress, burden, and burnout can be common.
With a deep passion for fostering mental and emotional health and resilience, I bring a wealth of experience and person- and family-centered approach to caregiver support. As a seasoned support, I understand the many unique challenges that caregivers face.
I am a Regulated Social Worker, having completed my Masters of Social Work at the University of Toronto in 2013, specializing in Gerontology. In my past roles, I have worked as an Outreach Worker out of London Health Sciences Centre, supporting older adults and their families when experiencing behavioural changes related to dementia, mental illness, or addiction. To follow, I offered public education and formal/informal caregiver support as the Enhanced Psychogeriatric Resource Consultant through the Behavioural Supports Ontario program. During this time, I worked casually at the Alzheimer's Society Southwest facilitating education and support groups. I currently teach within the Gerontology Interprofessional Practice program at Fanshawe College. I run an account on social media, offering evidence-based education on topics including dementia, caregiving, aging, ageism, and health.
I am confident in support caregivers through all journeys, including new parents coming into caregiving for the first time, parents of neurodiverse children, families, friends, or neighbours supporting people with complex needs, and older adults through cognitive, physical, functional, and emotional changes.
I believe in a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing that caregiving is intricately connected to physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. I am training in Behavioural Therapy and am currently training in Narrative Therapy.
